Born to Malayali parents she spent her childhood in Sian. Her father, a Muslim hailed from Thalassery while her mother a Hindu hailed from Thiruvalla. From there Nadhiya's parents migrated to Mumbai while she was very young. So she could speak Malayalam, English, Hindi, Tamil,  and Marathi fluently.

 Nadhiya had her schooling in Jehangir Beer Jorgi Vaccha Parsi girls high school and her Pre University in Shri Jamshedjee Jeejeebhoy School of arts. She then discontinued her studies to have a go at Tinsel World.

Her entry in the film world in both the languages Malayalam and Tamil was with a big bang, Her first film was in her mother tongue Malayalam in 1984. Malayalam's top hero Mohanlal and yester year Tamil heroine and Nattiya Peroli Padmini were her co-stars in her first movie Doorathu Kannum Nattu which proved to be a money spinner. Tamil actress Nadhiya received many recognitions for the film and the most special being Film Fare's best actress Malayalam in her debut movie itself. She also won the Critics award for best Actress for this film.

The Tamil version of the film Poove Poochoodava ( which also had Padmini playing her grandmother ) went on to become a smashing hit. With brilliant performances, she soon ascended to the top position among heroines in the three South Indian languages Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam.

 Nadhiya married Shrish Godbole a Marathi, investment Banker in 1988 and later settled in the U.S. She did her graduation in media management, B.A Communication ( in Arts and Radio Technology ) in the U.S . She has two, children Sanam her son who was born in 1996, and Jana her daughter who was born in 2001.Whenever she came to India and when she had the time she continued her acting.

In 2004 her movie M.Kumaran s/o Mahalakshmi ( debut Tamil film for Asin ) where played a strong-willed woman as the wife of an ambitious Prakash Raj and a doting mother of Jayam Ravi. Her performance in the picture got her so much appreciation and admiration from all quarters. So then arrived a majestic attractive mother for the Tamil Film Industry.

Her first movie in Telugu was Vinta Dongalu in the year 1989. Nadhiya was eulogized for her outstanding performance as the mother of Prabhas in the film Mirchi and for her classic performance in the film Attarinitki Daredi which eventually clinched her the most prestigious Nandi award for best Telugu actress. She excelled as an IPS officer in the role of Deepika IPS in the bilingual lThiraikku Varatha Kathai in Tamil and Girls in Telugu in 2016. She came up with yet another versatile performance in the Tamil Film Sandai and an outstanding performance in Tamil pictures like Chinna Madam.

 Nadhiya then shifted to London with her family. Now she has finally come to home sweet home Mumbai. Her sister is settled in Dubai.

Never in her glorious career had she done cheap roles and had never focussed on glamour any time.  Nadhiya was known for her class, caliber, and commitment. Her majestic and sophisticated looks made her a cult figure among the Tamil audience. At one point in time, her popularity reached such a height that many products were named after her like Nadhiya Kondai, Nadhiya Sari, Nadhiya slippers, Nadhiya Bangles, and Nadhiya cycle. She became the brand Ambassador for Arokiya Milk and Thanga Mayil Jewellery.

Never had  Nadhiya gotten into any controversy and she is one actress who has a very clean image. Nadhiya is one of the few actors who has managed her profession and marriage successfully and happily for over three decades.

Like Actor Sivakumar who has been hailed as the Markandeyar among the Tamil heroes she too could be called the Markandeyini for her ever-green youthful energetic personality. and May this versatile actress flourish, succeed and surpass excellence?
